Course Information
Description	A chronological analysis of the historical and cultural contexts of the visual arts from prehistoric times to the 14th century. Primarily an examination of Western painting, sculpture, architecture and related visual arts from prehistoric times to the end of the Gothic Period in the late Middle Ages. May be taken in either year of this curriculum.

Learning Outcomes	Identify and describe works of art based on their chronology and style, using standard categories and terminology. (PSLO Alpha, 1,2,3) Measured by pretest/post-test, embedded test or quiz questions. Investigate major artistic developments and significant works of art from prehistoric times to the 14th century. (PSLO Alpha, 1, 2, 5, 6) Measured by pretest/post-test, group discussions, and/or oral & visual presentations. Analyze the relationship of art to history by placing works of art within cultural, historical, and chronological contexts. (PSLO 1, 2, 5, 6) Measured by group discussions, and oral & visual presentations. Critically interpret and evaluate works of art. (PSLO Alpha, 1, 5, 6) Measured by group discussions and compare/contrast essay.
Core Objectives	Communication skills: Students will demonstrate effective written, oral and visual communication. Critical Thinking Skills: Students will engage in creative and/or innovative thinking, and/or inquiry, analysis, evaluation, synthesis of information, organizing concepts and constructing solutions. Personal Responsibility: Students will demonstrate the ability to connect choices, actions and consequences to ethical decision-making.

Identifies cultural characteristics (including beliefs, values, perspectives and/or practices); demonstrates knowledge of civic responsibility; provides evidence of experience in civic- engagement activities; and describes what she/ he has learned as it relates to a reinforced and clarified sense of civic identity in local, regional, national, or global communities; and shows awareness of one’s own culture in relation to others. PSLO 6: Personal Responsibility Skills - Integrates choices, actions and consequences in ethical decision-making. Recognizes ethical issues when presented in a complex, multi-layered (gray) context; recognizes cross- relationships among the issues; discusses in detail/ analyzes core beliefs; the discussion has greater depth and clarity showing the independent application of ethical perspectives/ concepts to an ethical question accurately; and is able to consider full implications of the application.

Determination of Final Grade	Expectations To do well in this course, plan on a minimum of at least 5-6 hours of work per week that will be dedicated to reading, writing, and studying each chapter in preparation for the major tests. Unless otherwise directed, I will assign a average of 1 chapter per week to study. There is a lot of course material to cover in this class so please don’t fall behind. It will be hard to make up course material if you do so. Determination of Final Grade Major Test 50% - There will be three major tests this semester totaling 50% of the final grade. Each test will cover 5 chapters from your text book. All content from each test will be taken from your textbook and any videos or lectures connected to each chapter. Each test will be a 50 question multiple choice test. Test 1- Stater Kit/Intro, 1,3,5,6 Test 2- Chapters 7,8,11,12,13 Test 3 (Final) - Chapters 14,15,16,17,18 20% Major Essay - There will be a major paper assignment that will count as 20% of your grade. This will be a 4 page paper over a subject piece from the book which will include a drawing assignment. 20% Revel Chapter Quizzes Each chapter that will be assigned to every student will have online quiz questions that will be required to be completed after every chapter. These will accompany the reading assignments for each chapter. 10% “Think About,” Question- Each chapter will also end with a short essay question. These questions are at the end of each chapter and 1 of these questions will be issued to the student to write about for each chapter. In order to get full credit these questions but be answered in essay format and be uploaded to blackboard for credit.

All course related assignments, objectives, quizzes, tests, and lectures will be available via your Lamar PA online portal and through Blackboard. It is very important that you keep track of updated online assignments and course objectives via your personal computer and Lamar PA email. In order to be successful in this class you need to be diligent in the pursuit of your education and maintain your commitment to the course. Class News and Updates I will be contacting you via email (through the campus email with reminders, changes or any other pertinent information. Please check your email at once per day to make sure there are any important updates. It is your responsibility to manage your mailbox so that lines of communication are open and available. Attendance Policy	Attendance You are required to check Blackboard for weekly and daily assignments every week. I will update new assignments every Monday so check your Blackboard accounts every Monday. If an online lecture is scheduled you are required to attend during set date. This is an online remote class so you will be responsible for your classwork and homework on your own time. You are required to have assignments turned in on time according to due dates.
Academic Honesty	Academic honesty is expected from all students, and dishonesty in any form will not be tolerated. Please consult the LSC-PA policies (Section IX, subsection A, in the Faculty Handbook) for consequences of academic dishonesty.
Facility Policies	No food or tobacco products are allowed in the classroom. Only students enrolled in the course are allowed in the classroom, except by special instructor permission. Use of electronic devices is prohibited.
